World Cassowary Day 2016
The annual event of World Cassowary Day will be held in the Daintree
Make sure you will be there on 24 September to wish this endangered
bird a Happy Bird Day !!
The James Cook University facility at Cape Tribulation will be the
venue for World Cassowary Day 2016.
Many environmental organisations, cassowary enthusiasts, and other
threatened species groups will set up stalls and information displays
to raise awareness of the plight and struggle for survival of both the
cassowary and other species of animals that are under threat.

World Cassowary Day has been running for three years now, the first
inaugural event was in Kuranda in 2014.
The second World Cassowary Day was in Mission Beach last year in 2015
and us Cape Tribulation residents are proud to be the hosts of the
2016 World Cassowary Day.
An interesting fact is that Cape Tribulation was known as Kurangee
by the Aborigines, and in their language this meant "Place of
For quite some time it was an extremely rare occurence to see a cassowary
around Cape Tribulation, but since around 2000 they have been making
a slow but steady comeback.
2015 was a productive year for them, the cassowary couple that has
their territory around Rainforest Hideaway and the rest of the street
had a batch of four chicks this year, and around the end of the year
another couple that often wanders around the car park at Cape Tribulation
Beach had another two chicks.
