Some helpful hints and reminders:
- Cape Tribulation has no street lights, bring a torch if your
walks might stretch out past six o'clock, the nights are very dark.
- There is one ATM in Cape Tribulation which works half the time,
your last chance to stock up on cash is Mossman.
Limited cash withdrawals can be made at the local shop through EFTPOS
on Australian bank accounts.
- At Rainforest Hideaway there are no mosquitoes at night so there
is no need to stock up on repellents.
- In most of Cape Tribulation mobile phones do not work, only out
on the point on the Cape or out on the ocean, more
info here.
- Many people are not aware they can go the reef from Cape Tribulation,
there are daily
trips and you can even do a scuba-dive course here, highly recommended!
- North of the Daintree river keep your speed down, you will enjoy
the scenery more and save the endangered cassowary
that can very unexpectedly step out on the road. Many people arrive
in Cape Tribulation unaware of what a cassowary is and mistake the
scrubhens for cassowaries.
An adult cassowary is 1.5 to 2 metres tall and a collision with
one of these birds would do some real damage to both the bird, your
rental car and your wallet. And the inconvenience of getting lynched
by the locals.
